THE BACKDOOR MEN - Out Of My Mind b/w Magic Girl 7" (1985)

Sweden was a veritable hot bed of teenage action during the onslaught of garage revival bands in the mid-80s. The Backdoor Men, led by sixties devotee, Robert Jelinek, morphed from the schoolboy mod band The Pow into one of Sweden's finest purveyors of psychedelic garage/folk. Their 1985 debut single "Out Of My Mind b/w Magic Girl" was released on the independent Swedish label, Tracks On Wax. The A-side promptly sets the tone with a feedback loaded intro. The songs springs to life with the screech of guitar, pumping organ and Jelinek's punkish vocals. "Magic Girl" is a lush psychedelic mass of echoed vocals, jangly guitar and meandering organ.

THE NIGHT TIMES - I'm Leaving You b/w Tell Me 7" (2024)

With three singles and an album under their belts, The Night Times have carved out their rightful place in the upper echelon of the modern age garage revival scene. The highly acclaimed French garage/beat label, Rogue Records, wrangled the Angelinos for their fourth single. “I’m Leaving You” leaps out of the grooves with the buzz of fuzzy guitar and the vintage tone of Farfisa. The track is highlighted by gritty harmonies and bang-on organ solos. “Tell Me” is a snotty groover driven by the interplay of crunchy guitar and warbly organ. If this is your introduction to the band, do yourself a favor and go back for their 2019 "Watch Your Step b/w I Got My Mind On You" single on State Records. No need to stop there, get all their records, call your friends and throw yourself a shindig!

THE KNIGHT SHADES - Why (Baby Why) b/w Make You Mine 7" (2025)

New York's newest swingin' combo, The Knight Shades sling out two sides of sixties soaked garage punk. The top deck, "Why (Baby Why)" is a snotty thumper that kicks off with a gargled scream then rides an indispensible organ riff that trades blows with some stinging guitar breaks. It is impossible to ignore the sing-a-long "ah ah ahs" without joining in before the song ends. "Make You Mine" is a groovy r&b mover that features more tasty guitar action and an addictive beat that is bound to fill the dance floor.

LYRES - AHS 1005 12" EP (1981)

This four track EP from 1981 is full of raunchy authenticity. Boston's garage punk guru, Jeff "Monoman" Conolly summons upon The Mysterians as he relentlessly bangs away at his vintage Vox Continental. The choppy organ and Mosrite guitars that drip with vibrato are the signature sound of this gar-runge foursome. "Buried Alive" and "In Motion" are pure punk pounders; "High On Yourself" is a blast of muscular soul; and The Hangmen's "What A Girl Can't Do" is pulled from Conolly's cache of 60s nuggets and recieves a spirited shakedown.

THE COUNT BISHOPS - Speedball 7" EP (1975)

A four track frenzy of dirty ass rock n' roll played at breakneck speed. The Count Bishops ripped apart four rockin' rhythm & blues standards with the raw gusto of the early Rolling Stones and Pretty Things. Opening with a red hot take of "Route 66" the leather clad ruffians rode a runaway train before going off the rails with an absolute scorchin' rendition of "Teenage Letter". Along with regulars (Dr. Feelgood, Eddie & The Hot Rods, Ducks Deluxe and Little Bob Story) on the pub rock circuit, the Bishops paved the way for the young punks that would follow.
